The site
A slope, mature trees, and a long view nobody can build in front of.
Otford is the opposite problem to a town plot. There is no shortage of setting here — the difficulty is putting a house on a hillside without flattening what makes it worth having. Level changes, root protection and access all shape the scheme before a single elevation gets drawn.
So the house is designed to sit into the slope rather than on top of it, stepping with the ground so that its bulk is absorbed from below and the roofline stays under the tree canopy. The mature planting on the boundary is the asset; the building works around it.
